On the game against Colorado
“I am disappointed it might be my last game here for Nebraska. I hope we win and get a bowl bid. As far as the cold games, I am done with the cold games. I am ready to go somewhere warm and by the beach.”
On the offense’s performance the last two games
“We just do different things when Joe [Ganz] is in. Joe is a more mobile quarterback and he can get out of the pocket. It was third and 20 when he got the first down. We do different things with Joe than we did with Sam [Keller]. It gives us a chance to put 72 on the board.”
On what is motivating the team going into the Colorado game
“To win and be 6-6 and force some bowl game to put us in. Try and get into a bowl game because nobody wants this to be the last game. Being 6-6, you want to go 7-6 and be over .500.”
On if he will wait around to hear any news on Saturday
“Yes. That is all you can do. Sit around and wait and hear. Everybody is going to know soon because around here everything is in the media the next day or the same day. We are going to find out.”
On if the team is scheduled to be around on Saturday
“I do not know yet. We have not scheduled that far ahead yet. Right now we are just scheduled to play on Friday.”
On what he is anticipating to happen on Saturday
“I cannot tell you. I hope Coach Callahan stays here. He is a good coach. It is not all on the coaching staff. Coaches call plays and players have to perform. We have not performed that well, so it is not all on the coaches.”
On what Coach Callahan has meant to him
“He has meant a lot. He taught me a lot of things like route running and as a person. He gave me a second chance. I love him as a person for that. He really reached out to me when I was suspended as a friend instead of a coach. He called me every other day and saw how my workouts were going, to see if I was getting in shape and how I was feeling toward this legal issue I had. I really love that guy as a person. I am thankful for having him as my coach.”
On how much community service has affected him
“It has affected me a lot. I have been doing community service at a group home. It made me see that the kids in the group home did not really do anything wrong. Some of them did, but some of them did not. Some of them, their parents were not able to take care of them and now they are in a group home. What did they do? It really let me know to cherish what I have. It could have been taken away from me when I was little or it could have been taken away from me last summer.”
On if he would have considered Nebraska without that coach connection
“Yes, I would have. I was just on the market looking for a team that threw the ball. It had to be a pro-style offense where I could get a lot of catches and get my name out there.”
On Colorado’s secondary trying to take him out of the game
“Yes. I expect that. That is what I like about it. When they take me out, then they have Nate Swift and Todd Peterson making plays. They are going to have to start worrying about them guys. Later on in the game, that is when they have to start worrying about me.”
On the criticism that too many players have their eyes on the next level
“I would not say they are worried about getting to the NFL. It is more about wanting to make plays and wanting to get their name out there to have a chance to go the NFL. You would not want to be playing at this level, risking the chance of getting hurt, if you did not want to move on. I would not respect a guy that just wanted to play and did not want to move on. Everybody is playing for that and if it happens it happens.”
On the best thing that has happened to him
“Getting the chance to play football. Not a lot of people get the opportunity, coming out of Eureka, California, to get a scholarship. That is one of the things I am happy for. Getting away from home and seeing the world. Nebraska is way different than California.”
