The Nebraska football team has to prepare for yet another high-octane offense this week as they take on OklahomaState on Saturday, Oct. 13. The Cowboys are led by quarterbacks Zac Robinson and Bobby Reid, both of whom pose problems to opposing defenses.
“They’re both very athletic,” Defensive Coordinator Kevin Cosgrove said. “Robinson is really impressive in his athletic ability. We already knew Reid’s athletic ability, and the more and more you get a chance to watch Robinson, you see that he’s a tremendous athlete also.”
The Husker defense will look to contain the quarterbacks, who have led the Cowboys to a top-15 national ranking in total offense, coming in at 14th with just over 473 yards a game. Robinson has become the team’s starting quarterback after Reid held that position for the first two games this year.
The Huskers must also deal with senior wide receiver and preseason All-Big 12 selection Adarius Bowman, who ranks fourth in the Big 12 with 103.5 receiving yards per game.
“They give you multiple formations, they have multiple plays,” Cosgrove said. “I think (with) the multiple position groupings, you’ve got to make sure you’re on top of the game. And then they have the ability to change the play at any time and that also creates problems, so we have to work hard on that.”
The Cowboys are coming off a 24-23 loss at Texas A&M last week, which saw OSU blow a 17-0 lead at halftime. Meanwhile, Nebraska is in the hunt for its second Big 12 win at Memorial Stadium this season after posting a 35-17 victory over IowaState on Sept. 29.
The Huskers enjoyed a near perfect fall day in working toward that goal with a 2 1/2 hour practice under clear skies and 60-degree weather on Tuesday. This week’s forecast calls for more of the same cool temperatures, before possibly turning wet for the game on Saturday.
This Saturday’s game is set for an 11:30 a.m. kickoff, and will be televised on FSN Pay-Per-View.
