<?xml:namespace prefix="st1" ns="urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags"?>Lincoln ? The Huskers dominated the possession battle against Baylor on Friday, but the Bears came away with the victory, 4-1, in front of 400 fans at the Nebraska Soccer Field.
The loss leaves NU with a 5-7-3 overall record and a 1-5-0 mark in the Big 12, while Baylor improves to 7-7-2 and 1-5-1 in the Big 12.
NU had plenty of opportunities as the Huskers outshot the Bears 29-8, including putting 14 shots on goal to Baylor’s five. Nebraska’s offense generated six corner kicks to BU’s one. Baylor’s defense came to play, though, as goalkeeper Ashley Noah recorded 12 of Baylor’s 13 saves and did not allow a goal.
The Huskers came out firing as junior midfielder Selenia Iacchelli put a shot off the crossbar five minutes into the game. NU found the post again later in the half, but could not find the back of the net. Iacchelli totaled nine shots in the game, including three on goal, while fellow junior midfielder Sari Raber had four shots, three of which were on goal. Freshman forward Alexa Cardona also had four shots.
Nebraska’s goal came courtesy of sophomore defender Anna Caniglia, who muscled a ball past Noah in the 85th minute. Caniglia dribbled her way past a BU defender and launched a shot from the top of the box that beat Noah high.<?xml:namespace prefix="o" ns="urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office"?>
