Albers and Reimers Advance to Open Doubles Quarterfinals

Tulsa, Okla. - Freshman Jana Albers and senior Imke Reimers advanced to the quarterfinals of Open Doubles in day three of the ITA Central Regional Tournament on Friday in Tulsa, Okla. The No. 13-seed Husker duo upset No. 1-seed Nanar Airapetian and Maryori Franco of Arkansas, 8-5, in the third round of Open Doubles. They will go on to play Florentina Hanisch and Lenore Lazaroiu of Wichita State in the quarterfinals.

In Open Singles, Reimers and sophomore Wiveca Swarting were both eliminated from play, Reimers in the third round and Swarting in the second.

Swarting played well in her second-round match but fell just short, losing to Oklahoma State's Yawna Allen, 4-6, 7-6, 6-2.

Reimers, the tournament's No. 3 seed, also needed three sets to decide her fate in her second round match against Corina Lazar of Wyoming. After losing the first set in a tiebreaker, Reimers rebounded well and won the final two sets without much trouble, with the final score being 6-7, 6-2, 6-2. Reimers advanced to the third round to play Oklahoma's Ana-Maria Constantinescu. Again, Reimers went three sets with her opponent, but this time was unable to pull out with a victory. She was upset by Constantinescu, 4-6, 6-0, 6-3.

In Consolation Singles, freshman Amber Chandronnait lost to New Mexico's Sandra Zmak, 7-5, 6-4.

Albers and Reimers are the only Huskers remaining in the ITA Central Regional Tournament, and they will play Hanisch and Lazaroiu in the Open Doubles quarterfinals on Saturday.
