Nebraska Edged Out by Texas Tech, 2-1

<?xml:namespace prefix="st1" ns="urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags"?>Lincoln ? Sari Raber found the back of the net in the fifth minute for the Huskers, but the Nebraska soccer team still came up short in a 2-1 loss to Texas Tech on Sunday in Lubbock. NU drops to 5-6-3 on the year and 1-4-0 in the Big 12, while the Red Raiders improve to 5-6-1 and 3-3-0.

The Huskers totaled 16 shots, including six on goal, while TTU notched 20 shots, putting five on goal. Tech racked up five corner kicks to NU’s one.

Raber, a junior midfielder, continued her leading role in the offense by getting the Huskers on the board first. She scored unassisted in the fifth minute and totaled two shots in the game. Raber kept the pressure on the TTU defense as she also put a shot off the crossbar in the first half. Junior midfielder Selenia Iacchelli had four shots to pace the Huskers, while forwards Shay Powell and Jaclyn White had three shots each.

Texas Tech’s first goal came courtesy of sophomore midfielder Maegan Wilber as she put a rebound home to tie the game at one. Freshman goalkeeper Jessica Mills made a save off a Red Raider header, but was unable to control the rebound and Wilber was in the right spot at the right time.

The teams were tied 1-1 at half, but Texas Tech came out of the locker room with the momentum. The Red Raiders scored early in the second half, but had the goal called back on an offsides call. TTU did not let the call affect its play, though, as sophomore midfielder Zhaleh Rezaie scored just minutes later. The TTU offense beat NU’s defense to a loose ball and Rezaie headed the cross in to put TTU up 2-1.

Mills made three saves on the day, while TTU’s Tina Rincon was forced to make five saves.

After traveling to Texas for two consecutive weekends, the Huskers return to Lincoln to host Baylor at 4 p.m. on Friday and Texas A&M at 1 p.m. Sunday.
