Lincoln - Listen to exclusive interviews with former defensive coordinator Charlie McBride and former Husker great Grant Wistrom from Monday's Steve Pederson Radio Show. Both Wistrom and McBride will be in Lincoln this weekend for the reunion of the 1997 national championship team.
McBride served as the Defensive Coordinator at Nebraska for 18 seasons and was on the Husker coaching staff for 23 years before retiring following the 1999 season. McBride guided the Blackshirts to three national titles, and his defenses were ranked in the top 15 nationally 13 times, including top-five rankings on five occasions.
Wistrom, a two-time All-American as a Husker, was the 1997 Lombardi Award winner following a career where he racked up 58.5 tackles for loss and 26.5 sacks during his four-year career. As a senior, Wistrom finished with 51 tackles, including 8.5 sacks and 17 tackles for loss, leading the Blackshirts in both categories en route to earning Big 12 Defensive Player-of-the-Year honors. A first-round draft pick in 1998, Wistrom played for the St. Louis Rams and Seattle Seahawks for nine seasons before retiring earlier this year.
