<?xml:namespace prefix="st1" ns="urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags"?>Lincoln ? On a wind swept day in Lincoln, the Huskers were handed a 1-0 loss by No. 16 Oklahoma State in front of more than 500 fans at the Nebraska Soccer Field. The decision was the first home loss this season for the Huskers (4-3-3) and snapped a three-game unbeaten streak.
With wind gusts up to 35 mph, ball control was an issue all game. Nebraska managed only three shots on goal, while OklahomaState (7-2-1) had seven. The Cowgirls outshot the Huskers 13-8 and racked up 11 corner kicks to NU’s one.
Both teams saw their chances early in the game. Senior midfielder Jessie Bruch put a free kick from 25 yards out off the crossbar in the 20th minute, while the Cowgirls found the metal unkind in the 23rd minute. Bruch and junior midfielder Selenia Iacchelli propelled the Husker offense with two shots apiece.
OSU capitalized on its advantage in corner kicks in the 38th minute. OSU midfielder Annika Niemeier put the corner back out to forward Adriane Radtke, who found midfielder Yolando Odenyo deep in the box. Odenyo beat NU goalkeeper Jessica Mills to her right for the lone goal of the game.
Mills continued her solid freshman campaign as she made six saves in the game. She has allowed just three goals in seven games at the Nebraska Soccer Field this season. Erin Stigler had three saves for the Cowgirls.
The Huskers hit the road for their next four games as they travel to Boulder to face Colorado at 5 p.m. Friday and stop in Austin on Sunday for a 1 p.m. showdown with No. 6 Texas.
