<?xml:namespace prefix="st1" ns="urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags"?>Lincoln ? Nebraska remained undefeated at home on Sunday as the Huskers tied No. 12 Florida 1-1 in overtime at the Nebraska Soccer Field. The Huskers boast a 3-2-3 record overall, including 3-0-2 at home, while the Gators drop to 4-2-2 on the year.
The game was even across the board as both teams saw advantages. Nebraska came out hot as the Huskers out shot UF 10-3 in the first half, but the Gators fought back, claiming a 4-1 advantage in shots in overtime. The Gators had a slight advantage in shots on goal, racking up eight to Nebraska’s seven. Both teams had three corner kicks, while Nebraska committed 18 fouls to UF’s 16.
Junior midfielder Selenia Iacchelli continued her dominant play by posting a goal in her second consecutive game. Iacchelli’s goal came just 45 seconds into the second half. She took advantage of a free kick from 35 yards out and put a shot over the outstretched hands of UF goalkeeper Katie Fraine. Both of Iacchelli’s goals have come on free kicks outside of 30 yards.
The Gators found their game after the Huskers’ goal and upped their play. Senior forward Stacy Bishop headed a well-placed cross from fellow senior Shana Hudson into the back of the net to tie the game at one in the 64th minute. Bishop was a mainstay in the Gators' offense on Sunday as she recorded five shots, four of which were on goal.
Florida almost stopped the game halfway through the first overtime when senior Ashley Harris dribbled a ball past NU goalkeeper Jessica Mills. Sophomore defender Carly Peetz was quick to react and made a sliding save in the nick of time to preserve the tie.
Mills had six saves on the day, while allowing just her second goal in five home games this year. Across the pitch, Fraine collected six saves.
Junior Sari Raber led the Huskers offensively as she put together four shots, including two on goal. Junior forward Aysha Jamani recorded two shots on goal, while Iacchelli, Anna Caniglia and Anna White all had one.
The Huskers kick off Big 12 action next weekend with Oklahoma traveling to Lincoln on Friday at 4:30 p.m. and Oklahoma State at 1 p.m. Sunday.
