Lawrence - The Nebraska men's golf team finished tied for seventh in a 16-team field at the Kansas Invitational on Tuesday at Alvamar Golf Club. The Huskers' team score of 905 put them 17 strokes behind the tournament champion, the Houston Cougars. Oral Roberts and host Kansas tied for second at 894.
Nebraska was led in the final round by junior Mark Pillen, who shot an even-par 72. Pillen shared top honors on the team at 224 with freshman Mike Coatman, who finished up a solid tournament with a 78 in the final round. Pillen and Coatman tied for 18th overall.
Freshman Andrew Wyatt shot a 77 to finish at 228 (t-43); freshman Brett Sundberg was one stroke behind him. Junior Trent Price rounded out the Husker lineup with a 239. Freshman Tyler Parsloe, playing as an individual, shot 236 in the first action of his career.
Jordan Irwin of Houston was the individual champion, shooting a one-under-par 215. North Texas' Cole Howard finished two strokes back in second place. Austin Hannah (Oral Roberts) and Kent Monas (Cleveland State) tied for third.
The Huskers have the next two weeks off before they head to Memphis, Tenn. on Oct. 8-9 for the Memphis Intercollegiate.
