Husker Freshmen Leading the Way at Kansas Invitational

Lawrence - The Nebraska men's golf team, paced by three freshmen, jumped up to sixth place after the second round of play at the Kansas Invitational at Alvamar Golf Club. Mike Coatman shot a 74 for a two-round total of 146, which puts him in a tie for fifth place. Coatman, who shared the lead after round one, is two shots back of the leader, Jordan Irwin, of Houston.

Andrew Wyatt continues playing consistently for the second straight week, shooting a 151 (76-75), good enough for a tie for 29th. Wyatt, a freshman from Lake Forest, Ill., and junior Mark Pillen are the only Husker golfers who have yet to record a round in the 80s thus far this year.

Freshman Brett Sundberg, seeing the first tournament action of his career, followed up an opening round of 80 with a one-under-par second round of 71, the best score of any Husker golfer. Sundberg sits in a tie for 29th along with Wyatt.

Pillen is just one shot back of Wyatt and Sundberg after shooting two rounds of 76. Trent Price shot an uncharacteristic 161 through two rounds. Another freshman, Tyler Parsloe, playing as an individual, shot a two-round total of 158.

Host Kansas leads the tournament with a score of 590. The Huskers are at 600 with the final 18 holes to be played Tuesday morning.
