On this being his final season at <?xml:namespace prefix="st1" ns="urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags"?>Nebraska (Listen)

“It definitely means a lot.  I’ve been in the program for five years and it’s been a long time, but it went by a lot faster than I thought it would. Just looking at this year, I think we can do a lot of special things and we have the team to be great and I’m just excited.  Nebraska football has always been important to me and that will never change even when I’m gone next year.  It’s always going to be important to me and this year is like any other year.  I will expect that we will do great things and much more because we have so many great guys and so much competition amongst teammates that it will fuel us to get better, and I feel like it will be a great achievement for us.”

On his motivation in practice

“Well, any time you get your hand on the ball it’s an exciting time.  Right now my focus is to mainly just go out there and practice hard and do whatever the coaches ask me to do.  That has always been my motive - just to do whatever they ask me to do and do it to the best of my ability and work hard at it.

“Right now we’re just going to go into practice with the mind set of going left and right.  The guys just know the system well enough where we don’t have to declare who is who.”

His thoughts on the secondary this year compared to last year (Listen)

“I think we have a lot of competition and that’s going to make us better.  A lot of those young guys are great athletes and they’re going to push for playing time and that’s going to fuel some of the older guys to get better.  We just have to get better.  This year we have so much depth in the secondary now we have so many guys who all have the ability to play.  If we don’t get any better it’s a shame because there’s so much talent there for us not to get better.”

His thoughts on the talent on the 2007 team compared to other years

“We’ve had some talented guys in the past.  When I first got here we had some pretty talented guys.  Not to knock any particular year, but I feel like we have so many athletic guys at the positions and on the secondary this year that the competition level has to raise with that type of mentality and ability.”

On Zackary Bowman playing in the 2007 season (Listen)

“I think Zack is going to work as hard as he can and train. He obviously wants to come back as soon as possible. That would be good for him and that’s going to allow him to play well.  I’m sure he’s not going to want to do anything that’s going to hurt the team as well as jeopardize his chances of being able to play the whole season.  So I think coming back too early will be the wrong move for him, but I think that’s a decision he has to make with the trainers and with the coaches to be able to make that decision.”

On Prince Amukamara and Anthony Blue

“I definitely think they competed well in our passing drills and seven-on-seven.  They competed with the veteran guys.  We showed them some of the stuff on our scheme and they really got into it and got out there.  They worked as hard as everybody else and I saw a lot of ability in them.  I feel like they can contribute.  Once you put on the pads, sometimes that may change, and you see some different things that you didn’t see when you’re just in shorts and shirts, but I feel like those guys are definitely athletic enough and they can get the system down if they can contribute.”

On his teammates

"Personally, I love all of my teammates equally and I’d love everybody to be able to play alongside me.  If I’m not the guy, then somebody else will be out there.  I may not be that guy because there’s enough talent in our secondary and I feel like playing with any of my teammates is an honor."

On being able to play safety two years in a row

“I feel good about it and I definitely feel comfortable.  There were some things last year that I struggled with a little bit, but I feel like there are some things that I worked on during the summer and in the spring semester and I feel a lot better as far as my comfort level and what I can do for the team this year as far as the safety position.”
