Wims, Danns Advance to 100-Meter Finale

Husker sprinters Scott Wims and Dax Danns both advanced to the event finals in the 100-meter dash at the 2007 Pan American Junior Championships on Friday in S?o Paolo, Brazil. The sophomores-to-be are representing the United States and Guyana, respectively, at the international event.<?xml:namespace prefix="o" ns="urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office"?>

 

Wims finished second in the semifinal round with a time of 10.43, while Danns improved his race from the qualifying round to slide in at fourth with a time of 10.54. The top time of the semifinals was turned in by Keston Bledman of Trinidad and Tobago, who came in at 10.34.

 

Wims and Danns made it into the semifinal round of the event with a pair of strong performances in the qualifying race, with Wims clocking in at 10.40 to win his heat and Danns finishing third at 10.60. However, Danns turned up the heat in the semifinal round, improving his time by seven-hundredths of a second to ensure his place in the 100-meter dash finale.

 

The duo will take on another qualifying round on Saturday, with the opening session of the 200-meter dash. Danns is scheduled to run in the first heat of the competition and Wims in the second.

 

Danns and Wims will also compete in the 100-meter finals on Saturday afternoon, after running in the qualifying round of the 200-meters in the morning. The semifinals and finals for the 200-meters will then be held on Sunday.
