Lincoln-Nebraska bowler Amanda Burgoyne was honored as the 2007 National Tenpin Coaches Association Player of the Year and a first-team All-American to headline a list of four Huskers to earn NTCA honors last week.
Burgoyne, a senior from Newport, Minn., was chosen the National Player of the Year after rolling a total pinfall of 14,892 over 73 games for an average of 204 during the 2006-07 season. The three-time first-team All-American finished her final season with the Huskers with seven top-five finishes, including a first-place finish at the Morgan State Invitational.
Burgoyne is the third Husker in four years to earn National Player of the Year honors, with Shannon Pluhowsky earning back-to-back honors in 2004 and 2005 and Lindsay Baker claiming the award last season.
Joining Burgoyne with post-season honors was redshirt freshman Cassandra Leuthold, who claimed the Rookie of the Year award in addtion to being named a second-team All-American.
Leuthold captured four top-five finishes during her rookie season, including two individual tournament titles at the Maverick Challence and the Ozark Invitational. She held a 202.3 average on the season.
Senior Adrienne Miller ended her last season with the Huskers on a high note, receiving second-team All-American honors with her 197.6 average. Miller also earned second-team All-American honors during the 2004-05 season.
Junior Lindsay Baker wrapped up the Nebraska All-American list, earning third-team All-American honors for her oustanding season. Baker, the 2005 National Player of the Year, had a successful 2006-07 season as she claimed three top-five finishes, including second place at the Morgan State Invitational.
