The three women join NU’s two men’s selections (Nate Probasco and Issar Yazhbin) to give the Nebraska track and field program five total selections, the most of any school in the country. NU finished the 2006-07 academic year with nine CoSIDA Academic All-Americans to increase Nebraska’s nation-leading total to 248 all-time across all sports.
Both Selig and Green were selected to the first team, while Shubert made an appearance on the second team.
Selig earned her second straight first-team award. The Lincoln, Neb., native had a stellar career for the Huskers, both academically and athletically. The 2005-06 Nebraska Female Student-Athlete of the Year, Selig was a four-time first-team academic All-Big 12 selection, a three-time NCAA Division I Track Coaches Association All-Academic Team member, a nine-time member of the Big 12 Commissioner’s Honor Roll and the 2005-06 Nebraska Student-Athlete Advisory Committee President. A three-time co-captain for the Huskers, Selig excelled on the track as a multi-event athlete, finishing her career with six NCAA All-America awards, including the 2005 indoor pentathlon title. Also a three-time Big 12 champion, Selig owns the Nebraska school record in the pentathlon.
Green’s added a second CoSIDA Academic All-America award, improving from a third-team honor in 2006 to a first-team selection in 2007. Green was also active on the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee, serving as vice president in 2006-07. The junior from Grand Island, Neb., is also a two-time member of the NCAA Division I Track Coaches Association All-Academic Team, a two-time first-team academic All-Big 12 selection and has made seven appearances on the Big 12 Commissioner’s Honor Roll. Green currently owns a 3.83 GPA in advertising at Nebraska.
One of Nebraska’s top pole vaulters, Green is a four-time Big 12 champion, taking the women’s indoor pole vault crown in 2004 and the outdoor titles in 2004, 2006 and 2007. She is also a two-time NCAA All-American in the event and owns both the indoor and outdoor Nebraska school pole vaulting records.
The youngest Husker track athlete to earn CoSIDA Academic All-America honors this season, Shubert earned her first selection as a member of the second team after turning in a 3.99 GPA in biological sciences. The Lincoln, Neb., native is a three-time first-team academic All-Big 12 selection and a five-time member of the Big 12 Commissioner’s Honor Roll.
A talented multi-event competitor for the Huskers, Shubert came into her own in 2007, finishing second in the pentathlon at the Big 12 Indoor Championships before receiving an at-large bid to compete at her first NCAA Championships during the outdoor season.
The Nebraska women’s track and field program features 20 all-time CoSIDA Academic All-Americans, including nine first-team selections. Overall, Nebraska track and field owns 32 CoSIDA Academic All-Americans in school history between the men’s and women’s programs.
