Husker Basketball Camps Underway in Lincoln

Lincoln? Fresh off its first season at the University of Nebraska, the Husker basketball coaching staff remains busy in its first summer in Lincoln, conducting six different basketball camps for boys and girls ages 8-18 years old.

This week, Coach Doc Sadler and the Nebraska coaching staff are welcoming more than 60 campers for its only individual overnight camp of the summer, before conducting team and individual day camps the rest of the summer.

“We’re excited to do these camps,” Director of Basketball Operations Chris Croft said. “This is obviously the first year for us to do these, and I think in time as our team gets better and we continue to win, you’ll see the camp numbers improve pretty quickly.”

The individual camps include an ?Emphasis of the Day,’ as well as 3-on-3 and 5-on-5 play. Monday’s focus was ballhanding and passing, while Tuesday was defensive rebounding and Wednesday was shooting and offensive moves.

“We spend a lot of time in the morning on those segments and breakdown drills with the campers,” Croft said. “A lot of those drills we’ve incorporated are ones that we do with our (collegiate) players. Then in the afternoons we concentrate on contests and league play, trying to use our ?Emphasis of the Day’ in regular games.”

In addition to instruction from Doc Sadler and the NU coaching staff, Husker basketball players are in attendance as well. Each camper also receives an official camp basketball and official adidas camp T-shirt.

The Husker coaching staff is still taking applications for its remaining team camp (June 30-July 1), Little Dribblers Camp (June 25-28 and July 30-Aug. 2), Individual Day Camps (July 16-19 and July 30-Aug 2) and Specialty Camp (Aug. 3).
