Lincoln - Former Nebraska softball players Katie Linke and KoKo Tacha received diplomas during spring commencement ceremonies on Saturday, May 5, at the Bob Devaney Sports Center. Senior Jaime Borg also earned her degree, although she was not present at the commencement ceremonies as she is with the Huskers as they close the regular season at No. 25 Missouri this weekend.
The Huskers’ 53-member graduating class consisted of student-athletes from 20 U.S. states and five foreign countries, including Austria, Canada, Colombia, Poland and Serbia. All 23 of Nebraska’s varsity sports were represented by at least one student-athlete in the graduating class, while the Huskers graduated with nearly 30 different majors in their fields of study. While the class was strikingly diverse, 16 native Nebraskans made up nearly a third of the class.
The trio of softball graduates consisted of two Lincoln natives and one Kansas native. Borg, a Lincoln native, is a three-time first-team academic All-Big 12 selection and earned her degree in Nutrition, Fitness and Health Promotion. Borg is the only member of this year's team to earn her degree before completing her playing eligibility and is the third Husker to do so in the past two seasons.
Linke, who is also a Lincoln native, received up her diploma in psychology. Linke was a 2005 second-team Academic All-Big 12 selection and, like Borg, was a recipient of the Julie Geis Memorial Scholarship.
Tacha picked up her diploma in business administration. A native of Manhattan, Kan., Tacha was a ESPN the Magazine/CoSIDA Third Team Academic All-American in 2006 and served as the 2006-07 Nebraska Student-Athlete Advisory Committee President. Tacha was also a recipient of the Richard Raimondi Memorial Scholarship.
