Huskers in Ninth Through First Day of Witchita State Invitational

Witchita, Kan. ? Senior Brady Schnell and Freshman Jamie Marshall led the Nebraska men's golf team to ninth place through the first day of competition at the Diet Pepsi Shocker Golf Classic at the par 71, 6,814 yard Wichita Country Club in Wichita, Kan.

The Huskers finished the first day with a total score of 602 (290-312) after facing winds from the south with 40 mph gusts.

Schnell and Marshall each snagged a total of 146, leaving the duo in a tie for ninth individually. Schnell's day included a first-round two-under par 69, while Marshall fired a one-under par 70 in the first round as well.

Senior Ty Capps (74-82) and senior Ryan Lenahan (77-79) stand in a tie for third for the Huskers with a 156 total, leaving the pair in a tie for 56th individually.  Senior Drew Reynolds rounds out the squad with a 159 (79-80), leaving him in a tie for 68th individually.

The team will finish the tournament with the third and final round with fixed tee times beginning at 8 a.m. CST Tuesday morning. The University of Texas- Arlington leads the tournament with a 579 (287-292).
