Huskers Hunt for Final Tournament Title

The second-ranked Nebraska bowling team will hunt for its final regular-season tournament title at the Brunswick Windy City Classic in Chicago, Ill., on March 23-25.  The three-day tournament is set to begin at 5 p.m. on Friday at the Brunswick Zone Fountain Square, with action continuing on Saturday at 11 a.m. and concluding Sunday afternoon.

Six other teams are set to compete in the event, including No. 1 Fairleigh-Dickinson and No. 5 Central Missouri state.

The seven teams will compete in two days of qualifying rounds to be seeded in a Baker-style double elimination tournament on Sunday.  The format of the Windy City Classic is similar to that of the NCAA national tournament to help the participating teams to prepare for nationals.

Six bowlers will travel to Chicago this weekend, including seniors Amanda Burgoyne and Adrienne Miller, juniors Lindsay Baker and Emma Butchard, and redshirt freshmen Cassie Leuthold and Sarah Koch.

The Huskers are 3-3-1 on the season, with their most recent win at the Music City Classic in Nashville, Tenn., on Sunday, March 18.  Burgoyne placed second with an average of 202 for second place, while Miller posted an average of 198 for fourth place.  Both Burgoyne and Miller earned spots on the all-tournament team.

Selection for the fourth-annual NCAA bowling national championship will take place on March 28 at 7 p.m.  The championships will be held on April 12-14 at the Brunswick Wekiva Lanes in Apopka, Fla.
