Lincoln ?Husker fans will have an opportunity to celebrate one national title while watching the men’s basketball team attempt to knock off its second ranked opponent this season at the Devaney Center this Saturday, Jan. 13.
Fans who purchase tickets for the Nebraska men’s basketball game against No. 9 Oklahoma State will also have an opportunity to get autographs from the NCAA champion Husker volleyball team, as the team will hold a special autograph session prior to Saturday’s game.
The Husker volleyball team, which will be honored during a halftime ceremony, will sign autographs for fans from 11:30 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. on the Northwest Concourse of the Devaney Center. Fans will also have an opportunity to purchase the Huskers’ national championship poster for $5 and other NCAA champion merchandise. In addition, fans can also have their picture taken with the national championship trophy prior to the game.
A limit of one item per person is in effect and fans must have purchased tickets to Saturday’s basketball game to participate in the autograph session.
Tickets can be purchased for the NU-Oklahoma State basketball game by going on-line to Huskers.com or by calling the NU Ticket Office at (800) 8-BIGRED. Tickets are going quickly, as the Huskers will look to improve to 9-0 at the Devaney Center this season.
The Husker volleyball team went 33-1 en route to the program’s third NCAA title. NU, which was ranked No. 1 the entire season, defeated No. 2 Stanford, 3-1, in front of an NCAA record crowd of 17,209 at the Qwest Center in Omaha last month. Led by four AVCA All-Americans including national player of the year Sarah Pavan, the Huskers won the school’s ninth Big 12 title in 11 years with a 19-1 Big 12 record.
The Husker men’s team, under first-year coach Doc Sadler, has gotten off to a fast start, going 11-3 in non-conference play ? its best non-conference record since 1994-95. The Huskers take on Iowa State on Wednesday in a game televised by Fox Sports Midwest.
On Saturday, the Huskers will be going for their first win against a top-10 opponent since also knocking off fourth-ranked Oklahoma State, 74-67, during the 2004-05 season. NU will be looking to extend its winning steak over OSU to three games ? NU’s longest against the Cowboys in over 20 years.
In addition to Saturday’s basketball game, the Devaney Center will also host the track team’s season opening Holiday Inn Invitational beginning at Noon, while the Husker women’s swimming and diving team hosts Kansas beginning at 2 p.m. at the Devaney Natatorium.
