Husker Baseball Heads to Omaha

Lincoln ? With spring drills set to begin later this month, the Husker Home Run Club is sponsoring a free preseason preview in Omaha on Saturday, Jan. 13.  The event will take place at the Scarlet and Cream Letter Club, located at 17404 Burke Street, from 9 to 11 a.m.

Fans at the event will be able to see the 2006 highlight tape, meet members of the 2007 Husker squad, participate in an autograph session and listen to comments from the Husker coaching staff. Juice, coffee. bagels and donuts will also be provided at both events, while fans will be able to join the Husker Home Run Club at both functions.

The Huskers, who are ranked ninth in Collegiate Baseball’s preseason poll, return 22 letterwinners from a squad that went 42-17 last season and reached NCAA regional play for the seventh time in the last eight seasons. NU returns All-Americans Tony Watson and Ryan Wehrle along with all-Big 12 performers Johnny Dorn, Andrew Brown, Jake Opitz and Andy Gerch.

The 2007 season begins on Feb. 16, as the Huskers will take on New Mexico at the UTA Invitational in Arlington, Texas. Nebraska opens the 28-game home schedule on Tuesday, March 6 against Nebraska-Kearney

Huskers Ranked 17th in Baseball America Preseason Poll
Lincoln ? The Husker baseball team also earned their second preseason ranking of the year on Thursday, as they were ranked No. 17 in Baseball America’s preseason poll.  The Huskers are one of three Big 12 teams in the preseason top 25, joining Texas (No. 4) and Oklahoma State (No. 22). NU will also take on two top-10 teams during the non-conference slate, as they face top-ranked Rice and No. 10 Wichita State during the 2007 campaign.
