Lincoln ? Four members of the top-ranked Nebraska volleyball team were honored Thursday with selections to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District VII Team.
The honorees included two-time All-American Sarah Pavan, who was a first-team honoree for the second straight season while Tracy Stalls, Dani Busboom and Amanda Gates were all selected for the first time.
Pavan, a first-team Academic All-American in 2005, was chosen as a first-team academic all-district selection for the second straight year. Pavan, who carries a 4.0 GPA in biochemistry, leads the Big 12 in kills per game (5.16) and points per game (6.08) while hitting .304 on the season. The reigning Big 12 Player of the Year, Pavan will now advance to the national ballot in hopes of becoming a two-time Academic All-American.
Stalls and Busbom were both selected to the second-team after enjoying strong seasons. Stalls, who carries a 3.96 GPA in the Individualized Program of Studies, is averaging 2.69 kills per game while leading the Big 12 in hitting percentage at .433, a total that ranks in the top five nationally. Busboom, who has a 3.55 GPA in communication studies, is in her first year at libero after sharing the starting setter duties over the last three years. She leads the Big 12 with 5.17 digs per game and is on pace to shatter the school record in that category.
Gates was the only sophomore chosen among the 18-member team, rounds out the selections, carrying a perfect 4.0 grade-point average in communication studies. On the season, she is averaging 1.22 kills and 1.22 blocks per game, ranking just outside the league’s top 10 in blocks.
The Huskers are 23-0 on the season and travel to Boulder, Colo., to take on the Buffaloes on Saturday, Nov. 11, at 8 p.m. The match will be carried on B107.3 FM and on Huskers.com. Live video streaming will be available on HuskersNside.
