Reimers Upsets No. 3 Player in the Country

Columbus, Ohio-Junior Imke Reimers of the Nebraska women’s tennis team upset Theresa Logar of Stanford, who is ranked No. 3 nationally, 2-6, 7-6 (5), 6-2,  in the first round of the consolation tournament at the ITA Indoor Championships Friday, Nov. 3, in Columbus, Ohio.

Logar, ranked No. 3 nationally, is believed to be the highest ranked opponent a Husker has ever beaten.

Reimers started the match slowly, dropping the first set, 2-6, but bounced back with her back to the wall to take the match-saving second set, 7-6 (5).  In the third set, Reimers cruised to a 6-2 upset over Logar.  Logar, last year’s ITA Indoor Championships runner-up, is eliminated from the tournament.

“It was an incredible effort by Reimers,” assistant coach Hayden Perez said.  “Her ability to focus really helped her win the tiebreaker and then take the third set.”

Reimers resumes play at the ITA National Indoors Saturday, Nov. 4, in Columbus, Ohio.
