Hawks Championship Center - Lincoln, Neb.
Offensive Coordinator Jay Norvell
On the status of the left guard position factoring in Greg Austin's injury
“(Andy Christiansen and Jacob Hickman) will all get work at it. Those guys have all been (taking repetitions). They’ll continue to work and probably all play this weekend.”
On success of the running game against Missouri in Big 12 play
“I don’t know any specific reason (for the success). That fact is that people have run the ball on them, and that’s something that we look to do every week. So it’s going to be important that we run the football, control it a little bit and keep their offense off the field. For us to be able to secure the football and protect the quarterback is also important. People have had some success (rushing against Missouri), and it will be important that we be able to do the same. We will keep it balanced, but we will try to be able to control it.”
On the importance of this week’s game with Missouri
“It’s very important. We want to finish strong. We’d love to win out, but this is a big game and we’d knew that this was going to be a big game for some time now. It’s important for us to win this game and get momentum down the stretch, especially from the last two weeks when you lose. You want to get that taste out of your mouth. There’s only one way to get it out, and that’s by going out Saturday and winning. We’re really anxious to get this game going with (Missouri).”
On wide receiver Maurice Purify
“Maurice has worked really hard. He’s a competitive guy, and he has gotten opportunities in games and made the most out of them. Zac (Taylor) has worked really well with him. I think those guys have a pretty good chemistry now. Maurice has worked hard to learn the offense, and he’s done a great job. He has to continue to improve and play his football down the stretch, because we’re going to need him to be the kind of playmaker he’s capable of (being).”
