Lincoln-The 2006-07 Nebraska rifle team will hit the road for the first time this weekend with matches against the U.S. Naval Academy and the University of Alaska-Fairbanks at the E.F. Horton range in Fairbanks, Alaska. NU is set to play Navy at 9 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 28. Rifle action will then continue Sunday as the Huskers battle against the defending NCAA National Champion Alaska-Fairbanks rifle team for a 9 a.m. shootout.
Last season, the Huskers fell to Alaska at the NCAA Championships, 4,682-4,666, earning Nebraska a runner-up finish. The Nanooks have won seven championships in the last eight years.
The Huskers hold a 1-1 record on the season as they split matches at their first tournament held on Oct. 10-15 at the NU Rifle Range. Nebraska defeated Ole Miss, 4,634-4,566, but fell to Army, 4,657-4,566.
Looking Ahead
The Huskers will return to the range Nov. 10-11 with a tournament at Lexington, KY. Nebraska will play Kentucky and West Virginia at 9 a.m. matches.
