Lincoln-The Nebraska rifle team suffered a nail-biting loss on Sunday afternoon, falling short to Army 4,657-4,656 at the NU Rifle Range. The Huskers closed their opening weekend of the season with a 1-1 record.
Senior Stacy Underwood, who claimed top air rifle honors with a career-best score of 590, led the Huskers on Sunday. Her score ousted her previous record of 589, which was fired against Ole Miss on Friday in the season opener at the NU Rifle Range.
Junior Kirsten Weiss placed second in the air rifle competition with a career-high 589, blasting her former personal best of 583. Nebraska finished the air rifle competition behind Army, 2,313-2,311.
Underwood then finished third in smallbore with a score of 580 to give the Huskers a 2,345-2,344 win in the event.
"Army is shooting really well and their score yesterday was even better than it was today, so we have a lot of work to do just to keep up with them," Nebraska Head Coach Launi Meili said. "I think we went out there and worked hard until the very end, but we just came up one point short."
Nebraska will take a two-week break before returning to action against Navy and Alaska-Fairbanks at Fairbanks, Alaska, on Saturday, Oct. 28.
