Los Angeles, Calif.?Junior Imke Reimers of the Nebraska women’s tennis team fell in the first round of the Riviera ITA All-American Championships on Saturday, Sept. 30, to San Diego’s Monica Weisener.
Reimers, the fifth seed, came out in dominating fashion, taking the first set from Weisener, 6-3. Weisener showed her resiliency, however, and took the second set 6-1. In the match-deciding third set, Wiesener proved to be too much for Reimers, winning 7-5. With the loss, Reimers was eliminated from the tournament.
Assistant coach Hayden Perez praised Reimers’ effort at the Riviera.
“Reimers had her chances and fought back well after the second set,” Perez said. “She showed her character but in the end, Weisener was too strong for us.”
The Huskers next see action at the ITA Regionals in Tulsa, Okla., on Oct. 18.
