Nebraska Athletic Director Steve Pederson said Thursday that Husker officials have determined a new seating capacity for Memorial Stadium. The new figure beginning with next week’s game against Louisiana Tech will be 81,067.
The previous capacity was 73,918, however with the addition of new seating in the North Stadium, new handicapped and mobility impaired seating and new suites in the North end zone, capacity has risen to more than 81,000.
The 81,067 seating capacity at Memorial Stadium is now the third-largest in the Big 12 Conference, trailing Texas A&M’s Kyle Field (82,600) and Oklahoma’s Memorial Stadium (82,112). The new Memorial Stadium capacity is also among the top 20 nationally.
The current record crowd at Memorial Stadium is 78,268 for the Nov. 2, 2002, game against Texas, however, that record will be broken next Saturday as the matchup with Louisiana Tech is sold out. The actual attendance figures for games includes everyone inside Memorial Stadium, including workers, teams, game administrators, and media.
