Blackshirts Make Progress in Week Two

Lincoln ? The Nebraska football team donned full pads and utilized the HawksChampionshipCenter, Cook Pavilion and Gass Family practice fields during Friday’s two-and-a-half-hour practice.  The Huskers took advantage of dry weather, moving outdoors for the first time in four days before splitting time between the HawksChampionshipCenter and the Cook Pavilion to finish practice.

“We’d had a lot of rain the last couple of days so the grass was still a little slick,” defensive coordinator Kevin Cosgrove said. “We want our guys to be able to play on the best surface possible, so we made the decision halfway through practice to move it indoors.”

Cosgrove went on to comment on the advances made by the Blackshirts in the second week of fall camp, beginning with the progress of junior Tyrell Spain, who was recently moved from wide receiver to defensive back.

“I think (Tyrell) Spain has made tremendous strides,” Cosgrove said. “He has certainly proved to us that he has the ability to play as a corner for us.”

Cosgrove also spoke about the return of linebackers Bo Ruud and Stewart Bradley, both of whom return to the Nebraska lineup after injuries in 2005.

“They are both playing pretty well right now,” Cosgrove said.  “Stew is as quick as I’ve seen him. Bo is playing very well, so they are both 100 percent ready to go.”

With so much returning talent gracing the Blackshirt roster, Cosgrove admitted that whether or not some of the young players see game time still remains to be seen.

“We still have a couple weeks of camp left and we’ll continue to develop (the young players) and see where we are when camp is over,” Cosgrove said.

The Huskers will continue to work on Saturday with their first two-a-day practices of fall camp.
