Weiss to Represent U.S. in Croatia

Lincoln - Kirsten Weiss of the Nebraska rifle team will gain valuable international experience this summer as she joins the U.S. Junior World Championship Team at the 49th International Shooting Sports Federation (ISSF) World Shooting Championships in Zagreb, Croatia, July 22-30.

Weiss finished among the top-three in two events, three-position smallbore and prone, at the Spring Selection Match held in Ft. Benning, Ga., last week, which qualified her to join the field for Team USA.  The top-three finishers from the three-position smallbore, air rifle and prone qualify for the team, with as many as nine individuals advancing.  However, that number could potentially be less if a single individual qualifies in more than one event as is the case with Weiss.

“Being on this team opens up better opportunities for World Cups and other international experience for these athletes and that translates into top performances during the collegiate season,” Nebraska Head Coach Launi Meili said.  “We are so proud of Kirsten’s work this summer, and we’re excited to see how this experience improves her abilities as a shooter.”

Over 2,000 athletes from around the world will convene in Croatia this July to vie for the title of World Champion, an honor that is awarded only once every four years.
