Oklahoma City - Junior right-hander Ashley DeBuhr was the lone Husker named to the Big 12 Softball Championship all-tournament team, released by the league at the conclusion of Kansas' 4-2 victory over Oklahoma in Saturday's title game.
DeBuhr, who earned Big 12 Pitcher-of-the-Week and first-team All-Big 12 honors earlier this week, played a pivotal role in Nebraska advancing to the semifinals. The Beatrice, Neb., native tossed all 29 of the Huskers' innings and finished the championship with a streak of 23 consecutive innings without allowing an earned run.
In the first game, DeBuhr surrendered just four hits but was tagged with three earned runs in NU's loss to Missouri. She fought back to lead Nebraska to a 7-1 win over 19th-ranked Baylor the next day. Against the Lady Bears, DeBuhr allowed one unearned run on just two hits while striking out 12. She also got the chance to hit and finished 2-for-3 with her first career home run and a career-high four RBIs.
DeBuhr was brilliant the following day against Oklahoma State. She kept the Huskers in the game by throwing eight shutout innings in Nebraska's 1-0 eight-inning victory. She added nine strikeouts and did not allow a baserunner after the third inning.
In the Huskers' final game, DeBuhr allowed a pair of unearned runs as NU committed a season-high four errors in a 2-0 loss to Kansas. DeBuhr surrendered just two hits to the eventual champions while striking out 10.
In the tournament, DeBuhr posted a 2-2 record with a 0.73 ERA. She also posted 38 strikeouts while walking only three.
Kansas' Serena Settlemier was named the tournament MVP after helping lead the Jayhawks to their first Big 12 softball title.
