Lincoln - Nebraska outfielder Luke Gorsett was one of six players added to the Brooks Wallace Award Watch List on Monday.
Gorsett enters Monday’s game hitting .376 with a team-high 14 homers and 43 RBIs for the fifth-ranked Huskers, who are 36-8 entering Monday’s series finale with Oklahoma State. Gorsett is tied for second in the league in homers and is among the Big 12 leaders in hitting, slugging percentage (.706) and total bases (120).
In addition to Gorsett, other players added to the Wallace Award Watch List include Kellen Kulbacki of James Madison, Kentucky’s Ryan Strieby, Oklahoma State’s Tyler Mach and Drew Saylor of Kent State.
The Wallace Award Executive Committee identified additional players as student-athletes whose accomplishments on the field this spring warranted their inclusion for the award. The Wallace Award Watch List will be trimmed to the semi-finalist round by Sunday, May 21, 2006. The selection committee will narrow the list to three finalists following the NCAA Super Regionals and make that announcement in Omaha on Thursday, June 15, 2006. The finalists, their head coaches and parents will be invited to Lubbock, Texas, where they will participate in a two-day celebration of college baseball on July 3-4.
Former Husker Alex Gordon was the 2005 winner of the Brooks Wallace Award, given annually to the top player in collegiate baseball.
