Three Huskers Named to 10th Anniversary Team

Former Huskers Peaches James, Jennifer Lizama and Nicole Trimboli were named to the Big 12 Conference 10th Anniversary softball team selected by a combined media panel and an online fan poll, the league office announced on Wednesday.

With three selections on the 12-player team, Nebraska trailed only Oklahoma, which placed a league-high five players on the squad. Texas was the only other school to have more than one player on the team. In order to be eligible for consideration, candidates must have been an All-Big 12 first-team selection during their playing career

James was one of only three four-time first-team All-Big 12 selections on the team, joining Lizama and Oklahoma catcher Ashli Barrett. James was selected as the team’s utility player after starring in the circle and at the plate. A 2004 second-team NFCA All-American, James is the NU record-holder in all-time strikeouts (945) and shutouts (44) and ranks in the top 10 in every pitching category, including second with 98 victories. The 2004 Big 12 Player of the Year, James also finished her career with a 1.19 ERA and hit .224 with 14 homers and 72 RBIs.

Lizama was a four-time first-team All-Big 12 selection from 1997 to 2000. A three-time All-American, including a first-team selection in 1999, Lizama finished her career ranked among the top six on 14 career charts and setting then-career records in at bats (710), games played (232), stolen bases (91), runs scored (199) and walks (124). She also ranks second all-time at Nebraska and 22nd on the NCAA career home run charts with 47. A native of San Lorenzo, Calif., Lizama helped lead the Huskers to three Big 12 titles in her career, including a regular-season title in 1998 with a perfect 16-0 league record, the only perfect conference record in the history of the Big 12.

Trimboli was a two-time first-team All-Big 12 selection in 2001 and 2004. She finished her career with a .301 average, 27 homers and 173 RBIs. A terrific outfielder, Trimboli also showed great speed, finishing 46-of-58 in stolen bases in her career. She helped lead Nebraska to three Big 12 titles, including a sweep of the regular-season and tournament crowns in her senior season when she hit .299 with a career-high 38 runs scored, 11 doubles, two triples, eight homers and 48 RBIs. A native of Colorado Springs, Colo., Trimboli ranks second all-time with 173 career RBIs, while also ranking in the top five in school history in at bats (2nd, 772), games (5th, 246), hits (5th, 232) doubles (t-5th, 36) and home runs (t-5th, 27).

Nearly 1,000 fans participated in the fan voting, which took place on the league web site.
