Women?s Tennis Takes Herman Award

Lincoln - The Nebraska women’s tennis team earned the 2006 Herman Award at Student-Athlete Recognition Banquet at the Bob Devaney Sports Center on Sunday evening.

The Herman Award is given to the Nebraska men’s and women’s team that achieves the highest team grade-point average for the academic year. The women's tennis squad boasts a combined GPA of 3.607 on a 4.0 scale.

The Nebraska men's cross country team claimed its fourth Herman Award on the men's side. Overall, 193 Husker student-athletes were recognized for their academic achievements at the 16th annual awards banquet.

The honor marks the second straight season the women’s tennis team has earned the award.  All eight Husker players were named to the Big 12 Commissioner’s Honor Roll during the fall of 2004 and spring and fall of 2005.  The Commissioner's Honor Roll recognizes student-athletes who post GPAs of 3.0 or higher during a semester.

Seniors Jennifer Cremieux and Pamela Castillejos are two-time academic All-Big 12 selections, with Cremieux being a first-team selection in 2003 and 2004, and Castillejos claiming second-team selections in 2004 and 2005. Senior Milena Schulz-Gartner was also named to the first-team academic All-Big 12 in 2005.

The Huskers, who own a 15-8 overall and 6-5 Big 12 record, will next compete at the Big 12 Tennis Championships in Waco, Texas, starting Thursday, April 27.
