Bill Callahan Post-Spring Game Quotes

Nebraska Head Coach Bill Callahan

Opening Statement

“First off, I would like to thank our great fans. There is no where across the United States in major college football where you can manufacture a home sellout for spring football. It just speaks volumes for our program, for the fans, for the following and the passion for the state of Nerbaska. It was an outstanding atmosphere for our players to play in today. In the last three years I have always considered this our eighth home game and today provided a climate and environment to function in, in terms of execution and pressure. Overall we are real pleased in that aspect.”

On where the team is at right now

“I thought the game was good for our team. We wanted to get in somewhere in the area of 80 snaps. We achieved that goal. We came out healthy. We had good competition. I thought it was competitive for our players. We got a lot of good things done. We still have a long ways to go.”

On how much he wanted to emphasize the running game

“We did. We emphasized it quite a bit. We still wanted to get our throws in and work on our protection game and work on the timing to keep Zac (Taylor) sharp, but we really wanted to test our young backs to see how they held up. I thought they did a fine job.”

On I-backs Marlon Lucky and Cody Glenn

“They both did a good job. We featured more of a draw scheme with Marlon. He has good vision, great vision. We used a counter game with Marlon as well. Cody with the power game, we were trapping and wrapping a little bit on the edge and he broke some runs to the weak side that I thought were very good.”

On Quarterback Zac Taylor

“I was pleased. I didn’t ask him to do a lot. I just wanted him to manage the offense and get the guys in and out, make some simple routine throws. We worked a little bit on our play-action game today. But I just wanted him to feed the ball to the backs.”

On the progress of the team following this spring

“I understand where we are at because I know the players. I know their strengths. I know their weaknesses. Our staff has such a better grasp of where we’re at from a team aspect. We know what we can do. We know what we can’t do. And we work to that end.”
