The No. 1 Nebraska bowling team wrapped up Friday’s action at the 2006 NCAA Championship with a fourth-round win in the elimination bracket. The win sets up a semifinal rematch at Noon on Saturday with Alabama A&M, who defeated the Huskers earlier on Friday.
The Huskers began day two of the championship with an unfortunate detour to the elimination bracket, as Alabama A&M dealt Nebraska its first loss of the tournament, 4-3. The Huskers were then faced off against two-time NCAA runner-up CentralMissouriState in the third round. Nebraska topped the Jennies, 4-2 and went on to defeat New JerseyCity, 4-2, for a place in the tomorrow’s semifinal match.
“We got off to an okay start, but it just wasn’t very good play across the board today against A&M,” Nebraska Coach Bill Straub said. “We look forward to meeting them again and hopefully advancing to the championship round.”
The Huskers will take on Alabama A&M in round five for a chance to advance to the finals to play No. 2 Fairleigh Dickinson for the title. Should NU defeat A&M, the Huskers would have to defeat Fairleigh Dickinson twice to claim their third consecutive national title.
Tomorrow’s final rounds will be aired on a tape-delayed basis on Sunday, April 16th, on ESPN at 2 p.m. (CST). For a complete list of today’s results and brackets, please visit http://www.ncaasports.com.
