Nebraska Sophomore Moves up in National Rankings

Lincoln, Neb?Sophomore Imke Reimers of the Nebraska women’s tennis team received the highest ranking of her career Tuesday, March 21, as the ITA National Rankings were released.  Reimers moved up seven spots to No. 88, while freshman Kim Hartmann was ranked No. 107.  NU, which is 11-5 on the year, fell in the team rankings from No. 42 to No. 49.

The Huskers finished their longest road stretch of the season last weekend with a 2-2 record.  The Big Red faced four ranked teams, including defeating No. 75 Loyola Marymount and No. 57 Ohio State.  NU narrowly missed upsetting No. 20 Long Beach State, losing 4-3.

Reimers went 3-1 on the road stretch, with her only loss coming in a marathon match with UC Irvine’s Ina Agababian, 7-6 (5), 4-6, 15-13.  Reimers holds a team high 18 wins this season, with three of her four losses this spring coming at the hands of ranked players, including No. 16 Zuzana Cerna of Baylor.

Hartmann, who is the Huskers’ No. 1 singles player, has burst onto the scene in her freshman season.  She owns a 15-8 record and defeated then-No. 28 Anca Anastasiu of USC in the fall.  The win over Anastasiu is the highest ranked player a Husker has beaten since 2003.

Nebraska next plays No. 65 Texas Tech on Sunday, March 26, at 10 a.m. at the WoodsTennisCenter.
