Tony Wilbrand led a trio of Huskers named to the academic All-Big 12 first team, the conference office announced Wednesday. Wilbrand was joined by Jason Dourisseau and Bronsen Schliep. All three will be honored during Senior Night tonight at the Devaney Center before the Huskers take on Kansas State in their final regular-season home game of the year. Tipoff is set for 7:05 p.m.
The three Huskers were part of a 14-person first team. Kansas led the way with four selections to the first team and five overall, while Nebraska was second with three picks. The Huskers have had 23 academic All-Big 12 selections since the formation of the conference, second behind only Kansas.
Wilbrand earned an honor for the fourth consecutive season, including his third straight first-team honor. Dourisseau also was named to the first team for the third straight year. They are just the sixth and seventh players in Nebraska history to be named to the first team for three consecutive years, joining John Turek (2003-05), Andy Markowski (1997-99), Bruce Chubick (1992-94), John Matzke (1984-86) and Jack Moore (1980-82). It is the first time in program history two players were first-team honorees together over each of their last three seasons.
Schliep earned his second straight award after earning first-team honors last season. Schliep and Dourisseau were each named to the CoSIDA Academic All-District first team in February and are now on the Academic All-America ballot. Schliep owns a perfect 4.0 grade-point average through nine semesters of undergraduate course work, the only member of the 2006 academic All-Big 12 with a perfect GPA.
