The 18th-ranked Nebraska softball team has added a doubleheader tomorrow, Wednesday, March 1, against Missouri Western at 3 & 5 p.m. at Bowlin Stadium. Admission into the games is free.
Head Coach Rhonda Revelle announced the addition on Tuesday.
“We wanted to schedule this doubleheader because we sat in a hotel last weekend and watched four games get rained out,” Revelle said, referring to the Huskers’ rain-shortened stay at the NFCA Leadoff Classic in Columbus, Ga. “Looking ahead at this weekend, there is a chance of rain every day in Tulsa, as well. We’re anxious to play, and anxious to play at home because how often do you get a chance to play at home on March 1?”
Nebraska is 6-1 this season. The Huskers’ seven total games are the fewest in the Big 12 Conference. The other nine league schools have played an average of 14 games this season, or twice as many as NU.
The March 1 home date is the earliest in the history of Bowlin Stadium and is believed to be the earliest home game in the 31-year history of Nebraska softball. The Griffons, a Division II school from St. Joseph, Mo., are 4-2 this season. Former Husker Leigh Suhr is an assistant coach for Missouri Western.
Live stats will be available on Huskers.com for both games. Following the mid-week action, NU travels to Tulsa, Okla., this weekend for the Best Western Airport Festival. The Huskers open the tournament with a pair of games against Stephen F. Austin and Notre Dame on Friday. The Notre Dame game will mark the first of a minimum of 10 Husker games that will air on the Pinnacle Sports Network and on Huskers.com.
