<?xml:namespace prefix="st1" ns="urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags"?>Colorado Springs, Colo. ? The undefeated Nebraska rifle team continued its impressive season on Thursday by firing a team score of 4,682 during the NCAA Sectional in Colorado Springs, Colo.  Air Force, the match host, shot a 4,614.    <?xml:namespace prefix="o" ns="urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office"?>

Nebraska's final mark ranked as its third-highest total of the season, helping NU improve its three-score average. The Huskers' top three-score season average will be combined with their NCAA Qualifier mark on Saturday, Feb. 11, to determine whether Nebraska receives an NCAA Championship berth.  The Huskers also fired their top two scores of the season - 4,687 and 4,686 - against Air Force earlier in the year.

“I’m really happy with how we started out the weekend,” Head Coach Launi Meili said.  “We shot our third-best score of the season and we still feel like we can do better.  Now it’s up to us to carry our momentum through to the qualifier on Saturday.”

NU surpassed its season-average scores in both smallbore (2,332) and air rifle (2,350), which stood at 2,328 and 2,343, respectively coming into postseason action.

The Huskers were led individually in smallbore by junior Kristina Fehlings, who shot a season-high 589 in the discipline, followed by senior Misty Chanek with a 586.

In the air rifle, sophomore Kim Chrostowski emerged as Nebraska’s top shooter with a career-high shattering mark of 589 over her previous best of 583, which she shot against Air Force in Lincoln on Oct. 23, 2005.  Chanek tied with sophomore Andrea Franz?n for second in air rifle with a score of 588.

Nebraska will remain in Colorado Springs through the weekend, taking Friday to train before competing at the NCAA Qualifier on the Air Force Academy campus Saturday, Feb. 11, at 9 a.m.
