Lincoln ? Six current or former Nebraska gymnasts were honored this week as members of the Big 12 Fall Commissioner’s Honor Roll. Senior Derric Wood, junior Jason Wassung, sophomore Stephen T?trault, freshmen T.J. Schmidt and Jacob Ives, along with former gymnast Adam Tietze were just a few of the 235 Nebraska student-athletes named to the list which recognizes a grade point average of 3.0 or higher during the previous semester.
This is the third Big 12 Commissioner’s Honor Roll distinction for T?trault who received recognition in both the fall and spring semesters last year as a math major. In addition, T?trault earned special recognition this semester as just one of 35 Husker athletes to post a 4.0 GPA.
Both Wood and Wassung earned a place on the Honor Roll for the first time in their careers. Wood is a history major at Nebraska and Wassung is majoring in construction management. This is the fifth award for Tietze, who is also a three-year recipient of Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Academic All-Conference honors. Tietze graduated from Nebraska in December with a degree in history.
Schmidt, a nutrition, exercise and health science major, and Ives, an actuarial science major also received the award following their first semester at Nebraska. This is the second consecutive season that at least two freshman from the men’s gymnastics program achieved such success, indicating good things to come at Nebraska.
