Former <?xml:namespace prefix="st1" ns="urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags"?>Nebraska football player Curt Tomasevicz is one of nine athletes who have been selected to represent the United States in the men’s bobsled competition at the 2006 Winter Olympic Games next month in Torino, Italy. He will likely serve as a pusher for USA-2 driver Steve Holcomb. <?xml:namespace prefix="o" ns="urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office"?>
A Shelby, Neb., native, Tomasevicz began his career in bobsledding in 2004, and his first season on the World Cup circuit was in 2004-05. His best results included placing fourth in a four-man World Cup race in Igls, Austria, in December 2004, and he placed seventh in the same sled on this year’s Olympic track near Torino in January 2005.
Tomasevicz, a walk-on fullback and linebacker for the Nebraska football team from 1999 to 2003, earned first-team academic All-Big 12 honors as a senior in 2003 and graduated with a degree in electrical engineering.
Men’s two-man bobsled qualifying is scheduled for Friday, Feb. 18, while finals will be held the following day. The men’s four-man competition will take place the following weekend, Feb. 24-25.
