Huskers Come Up Short Against Sooners

Tulsa, Okla. - The No. 75 Nebraska men's tennis team fell to No. 42 Oklahoma, 4-0, Saturday night in the semifinal round of the ITA Region 5 National Indoor Qualifying Tournament held in Tulsa, Okla., at the Michael D. Case Tennis Center.

In singles action, Senior Jerry Posch fell to No. 23 Marek Velicka, 6-4, 6-3.  Junior James Clow was defeated by Tommy Garrison, 6-1, 6-4, while senior Joerg Barthel lost to Sergey Avdyev, 6-4, 7-5. 

Posch and newcomer Mark Tate fell in doubles action to No. 20 Alexei Ivanov and Marek Velicka, while Barthel and Melo lost to Lee Gregg and Matt Long, 8-3.

"We just didn't have our legs tonight," Coach Kerry McDermott said. "But this tournament was a great indicator of where we are at and what we need to work on."

The Huskers return to action Feb. 3, in Tallahassee, Fla., when they take on Furman at 1 p.m.
