Tulsa, Okla. - The No. 75 Nebraska men's tennis team defeated Drake, 4-2, Saturday afternoon to advance to the semifinal round of the ITA Region 5 National Indoor Qualifying Tournament in Tulsa, Okla., at the Michael D. Case Tennis Center.
In singles action, junior Adrian Szatmary defeated Maor Zirkin, 6-3, 1-6, 7-5, while newcomers Mark Tate and Renato Melo claimed their first victories as Huskers. Tate downed Ivan Mendoza, 6-3, 6-4, and Melo beat Chris Lueth 6-1, 6-1.
Szatmary and fellow junior James Clow defeated Jonathan Tishler and Maor Zirkin, 8-6, in doubles action. The combination of Nebraska senior Joerg Barthel and Melo also beat Lueth and Mendoza, 8-6.
The Huskers are set to take on Big 12 Conference rival, No. 42 Oklahoma Saturday at 8 p.m. for the right to advance to Sunday's final rounds.
