Three Husker bowlers earned spots on Team USA at the conclusion of the United States Bowling Congress Team USA Championships on Friday. Former Husker Diandra Asbaty (Hyman) was crowned the U.S. Amateur champion with a total pinfall of 10,811 over 48 games. Shannon Pluhowsky, a 2005 graduate of NU, came in a close second with a total of 10,788. Current Husker Amanda Burgoyne rounded out Team USA with a 214.08 average.
Asbaty, the 1999 U.S. Amateur champion, makes Team USA for the eighth time in her career. Although Pluhowsky held the lead all week long, Asbaty was able to forge ahead in her 47th game. Despite losing to Pluhowsky 195-190 in her last game, Asbaty was still able to seal her first place finish.
Four other Huskers also placed in the top-24. Current Huskers Adrienne Miller and Lindsay Baker placed sixteenth and twentieth respectively. Former Huskers Kari Schwager of Chicago and Jennifer Murphy (Daugherty) of Helotes, Tex. placed fifteenth and seventeenth.
