NU Women to Challenge Men in Intrasquad Meet

LINCOLN?The Nebraska track and field team will hold its annual pre-season intrasquad meet Thursday and Friday, Dec. 8-9, at the Bob Devaney Sports Center Indoor Track.

Field events will begin each day’s competition at 3:30 p.m. Thursday’s lone running event, the 600-yard run, will follow at 4:30 p.m., while all remaining running events are scheduled to begin at 4 p.m. on Friday. Admission is free.

This year’s intrasquad competition will feature a change in format, as the Husker men will be pitted against the NU women’s squad in a team scoring matchup. The scoring system will be a version of  the IAAF Tables, which assign points to individual performances. The tables are similar to the scoring tables used to calculate scores for multi-event competitions such as the heptathlon or decathlon. It will allow a format for the men’s and women’s squads to compare individual performances.

"This will be a lot of fun for our kids," Head Coach Gary Pepin said. "The’ve been training for a long time, and they are anxious to have a chance to compete. This should also give us a good chance to see where everyone stacks up going into the opening of our season."

Nebraska officially opens its season Jan. 13-14 with the Holiday Inn Invitational at the Devaney Center Indoor Track. Along with the Huskers, several in-state schools are expected to participate in the meet.
