Ten Huskers Recognized by Big 12 Coaches

Ten Nebraska football players have been named to the All-Big 12 team as announced by the Big 12 office on Tuesday. The selections were made by the league’s 12 head coaches, who were not permitted to vote for their own players. Three Huskers were named to the second team, with seven other players receiving honorable-mention accolades.

On offense, senior I-back Cory Ross earned second-team All-Big 12 honors after being an honorable-mention pick as a junior. Ross leads Nebraska in rushing with 721 yards and four touchdowns, and has also caught 40 passes for 384 yards and three touchdowns. Ross’ 40 receptions are just one shy of the Nebraska single-season record for receptions by a running back and he is the only player in school history to rank in the career top 10 in both rushing yards and receptions.

Defensively, junior defensive end Adam Carriker and senior safety Daniel Bullocks picked up second-team All-Big 12 honors. The 6-6, 280-pound Carriker paces Nebraska’s nation-leading sack attack with a Big 12-best 9.5 sacks and has 17 tackles for loss on the season. Carriker has 42 total tackles and also leads the Huskers with 18 quarterback hurries.

A senior from Chattanooga, Tenn., Bullocks earned second-team honors after being an honorable-mention All-Big 12 pick in his junior season. Bullocks ranks third for the Huskers with 75 tackles, including four tackles for loss. He leads the team with 10 pass breakups and also has an interception, a fumble return for a touchdown, a pair of fumbles caused and a blocked punt. Bullocks has the second-most career tackles by a Nebraska defensive back, while his 22 career breakups is the most-ever by a Nebraska safety.

Bullocks, Carriker and Ross were joined by seven players receiving honorable-mention All-Big 12 honors from the league’s coaches. On offense, junior center Kurt Mann and sophomore wide receiver Terrence Nunn were honored. Defensively, senior defensive tackle Titus Adams, junior defensive end Jay Moore, sophomore linebacker Corey McKeon and sophomore cornerback Cortney Grixby earned recognition. Punter Sam Koch, who ranks third nationally in punting average, was Nebraska’s final honorable-mention All-Big 12 pick.

Earlier this week, seven Huskers received mention from the Kansas City Star in its all-conference selection. Koch and Nunn (punt returner) were first-team selections, while Mann, Carriker, McKeon, Bullocks and freshman place-kicker Jordan Congdon were second-team All-Big 12 picks.
