Six Huskers Named Academic All Big 12

Lincoln ? Six members of the No. 1 Nebraska women’s volleyball program were honored Tuesday with their selection on the academic All-Big 12 teams.

The six Huskers honored included a trio of repeat winners, juniors Dani Busboom, Christina Houghtelling and Dani Mancuso. Other Huskers selected for the first team include sophomores Sarah Pavan and Tracy Stalls, while two-time All-American Melissa Elmer was a second-team selection. 

Pavan, who carries a 4.00 GPA in biochemistry, was one of four players in the Big 12 nominated with 4.00 GPAs. It also marks the second academic honor of the year for both Pavan and Houghtelling, as they were garnered first-team academic all-district honors last week.

Nominated by each institution's director of student-athlete support services and the media relations offices, the volleyball academic all-league team consisted of 52 first-team members combined with nine on the second team.  First team members consist of those who have maintained a 3.20 or better GPA, and the second team are those who have a 3.00 to 3.19 GPA.

To qualify, student-athletes must maintain a 3.00 GPA or higher either cumulative or the two previous semesters and must have participated in 60 percent of her team's scheduled contests. Freshmen and transfers are not eligible in their first year of academic residence. Senior student-athletes who have participated for a minimum of two years and meet all the criteria except percent of participation are also eligible.

The No. 1 ranked Huskers are 25-0 on the season and travel to Baylor Wednesday evening.
