Nebraska senior Kayte Tranel secured a spot for the NCAA Cross Country Championships in Terre Haute, Ind. on Monday, Nov. 21, the NCAA announced Sunday.
Tranel automatically qualified for the national event after she placed eighth at the Midwest Regional in Iowa City, Iowa on Saturday, Nov. 12 in a career-best 6K time of 21:09.
"I’m so excited for Kayte (Tranel)," Head Coach Jay Dirksen said. "She has worked very hard since she has been here, especially this year."
Tranel’s performance led the women to a fifth-place team finish one year after the squad placed 11th at the regional meet in 2004, when Nebraska’s highest finisher came in 37th place.
The women’s 6K race at the NCAA Cross Country Championships is set for 1:15 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 21 in Terre Haute, Indiana at the LaVern Gibson Cross Country Course.
