Mankato, Minn.-The Nebraska bowling team opened its 2005-06 season in superior fashion, dominating the competition at the Mankato State Invitational over the weekend.
Nebraska went a flawless 9-0 in the three-day event, throwing a total pinfall of 9,354 and easily crushing NCAA runner-up CentralMissouriState, which held a record of 4-2 with a 6,062 pinfall. Vanderbilt placed third with a 4-5 record and an 8,544 pinfall.
Nebraska claimed three of the five all-tournament spots. Senior Jamie Martin (Omaha, Neb.) placed third with a 225 average. She was followed by sophomore Lindsay Baker (Amherst, N.Y.), who placed fourth with an average of 214. Junior Amanda Burgoyne (Newport, Minn.) rounded out the all-tournament team with a 209 average.
“We’re off to a good start,” said Straub, “and we hope to maintain it.”
The Huskers’ will travel to Daytona, Fla. for the Florida Sports Authority competition on Dec. 9-11.
