Huskers Ready for Jayhawks

LINCOLN ? The Nebraska football team concluded its game-week preparations for Kansas with a two-hour practice inside Memorial Stadium Thursday. Head Coach Bill Callahan said the Huskers are excited for the opportunity to play the Jayhawks this weekend.

"We’re excited about playing," Callahan said. "It’s a real challenge for our football team. We’re excited to go down to Lawrence and face a good football team in Kansas. They are really well coached, well disciplined in all three phases. This is going to be a real good challenge for our football team."

Callahan addressed the Huskers’ injury situation at the left offensive tackle spot Thursday. Starting tackle Cornealius Fuamatu-Thomas missed much of the week’s practice time due to injury, while backup Lydon Murtha has been filling in at the spot.

"(Cornealius) practiced today, so he may have the possibility of playing," Callahan said. "We feel good and positive about Lydon Murtha and what he’s capable of doing, and of course having (Fuamatu-Thomas) backing him up if we need to spell (Murtha) for a series. We can certainly do that."

The Huskers will hold a short walkthrough Friday afternoon at Memorial Stadium before departing for Lawrence, Kan.
